Tulu Tulu Lolita Adjustable Hoop Skirt Review
Hello everyone,
Thanks for visiting my blog. This is my first review. I plan to make one for all the items I have and plan to have. I think it can be very useful for beginner lolitas, and for me, as well 🤣, so I can practice my English fufuf.
Today's review is a hoop skirt by Tulu Tulu Lolita! It is called the "Adjustable petticoat" or "The EVERYWHERE chiffon adjustable petticoat". I got the regular size (65 to 90cm waist), in white. It was $35 USD, including airmail shipping, which was surprisingly fast considering all the delays because of the pandemic.
Tulu Tulu Lolita is on Store Envy, but they also list their hoop skirts on Lacemarket. I got mine from Lacemarket.
This is how it looks, right out of the bag |
They also have it available in black (which I want to get, maybe sometime in the future). And they also have a plus-size version that stretches up to 120cm.
I considered buying this hoop skirt because my first petticoat is super poofy, and it didn't work with smaller dresses (those dresses that don't have a very big skirt, and that I wanted to wear for casual occasions). Since this is adjustable, it would allow me to play with shapes and different levels of poof. In general, I just wanted something more "manageable" and not only a poof-monster xD
Wearing a smaller dress |
I think that as beginner lolita, we don't hear too much about hoop skirts as much as we hear about petticoats. I'm not quite sure why. We don't see the hoop skirt mentioned as often, so it feels more like you are pressured to own a petticoat, but a hoop skirt is optional? I don't know, maybe it is just me!
Even after watching many videos about the differences, pros, and cons of both, I still decided to buy an organza petticoat first, and even though I don't regret that purchase, if I had someone telling me "start with a hoop skirt, buy a petticoat later", I would totally do that instead. I feel bad for realizing this late, but wearing a hoop skirt instead of a petticoat is the BEST idea for summer, which is the season all-year-round in my country. So please learn from me,
If you are just starting out and you live in a hot place, please consider a hoop skirt!
Anywho, I love this hoop skirt.
It fits very well, very comfortable, even though the first time I wore it for the entire day, it left marks on my skin. I guess this is just because it is too new and the elastic hasn't stretched enough for me (?)
It basically has two layers, one is the hoop skirt itself with the two channels and hoops inside, and then another soft chiffon layer on top that is very very soft, and prevents the hoops from showing through the dress.
These are the end bits that prevent the hoops from moving around |
Small/Casual poof vs Full poof |
I think the quality is very good for the price. I hope it lasts a long time! If you want to know how to adjust the hoops, I'd recommend watching this video by Magicalgirlme/Callista, where she explains way better than me 😂
I love the adjustable hoops because now I can wear the same petticoat with all my pieces!
This is casual poof - It looks pretty nice with Otome dresses |
Also works with skirts & bigger dresses! (it isn't even at its poofiest level here) |
So far, I've worn this petticoat around three times, two of them were full days, the other was just a couple of hours. So far so good with the comfort, but I have a small issue with the length. In their listings, they say it measures approximately 47cm, but it looks like in real life it is slightly longer by a few centimeters.
My plan is to take it in a little bit in the near future so I can comfortably wear it in my natural waistline.
Here I'm wearing the hoop skirt in my natural waistline, but the lace is showing at the hem |
Here the lace is not showing, yeey! But the waistband is almost below my boobs, not comfortable! |
I'll try to make some alterations to it and share the process here as well! I'm very excited about that. In the meantime, I... decided to desperately take it in by hand because I wanted to wear it ASAP. I think the proper way would be to remove the lace, cut the hem, and then sew the lace back. In the meantime, this is what I had 😂
45cm or so is my ideal length |
Hopefully, I can start the alteration project soon! I'm almost done with the semester and I'm slowly settling in my new space.
I think that's all for today, thank you very much for reading 🙏🏼 See you in the next post!
