Himena The Gentle Chocolate OP Review

I'm finally making a review of a main piece! Today's review is about an OP from an indie brand called Himena! I've been looking at this dress for a while, I always saw it over on Lacemarket, but I thought it was kinda expensive(?) it is quite simple and more Otome fashion than Lolita. I also thought it was maybe better to save up a bit more and get Japanese brand(?). Well, in the end I got it and I really like it! No regrets!!!

I got the OP in pink after thinking for a while if the JSK would be better or not. Eventually, I think I also want to get the JSK. (I got an extra boost after watching Doan's video review, I never saw it in motion before this video, but once I did I was even more in love)

Soooo cute!

Some Notes!

  • I got the smallest size which is quite comfortable and has plenty of room for me, except for the sleeve cuffs
  • I got the dress from Himena's Taobao store through Spreenow shopping service
  • Price was almost USD $90 before shipping (for the OP and the headbow)
  • Shipping cost was around USD $30 (I also got two pairs of shoes in this order, so I think it is a good deal!). The shipping method was ePacket and it arrived in around 3 weeks. Pretty good coming from China in the middle of the pandemic!

You might think that for an indie brand this is kinda expensive (almost $100 with shipping) and that might be true, but if you see the construction and quality of it, I think it is okay, especially comparing it to other Otome fashion brands 🤣 I'm honestly very happy with what I got.

It fits very comfortably, but I can't raise my arms very high, the sleeve is kinda tight haha. But at least it's not super hot.

Some Coord Shots!

I love the color and the print. The pink goes well with ivories, browns, and whites, which are the main base colors I like! This was a nice girly addition. In the future I want to get the JSK in ivory or blue, not sure yet. Ivory would be super easy to coord for me, whereas blue would add some variety to my pieces. I want to try blue. I actually have an internal fight to dead with blue, but I think I'm mature enough now to give it a chance LOL

Some Issues!

I have worn this dress three or four times already for many hours/entire day, I washed it once also, and I had a few issues. One of the sleeve buttons fell off the very first day. Super unfortunate 😂 but whatever. It is just a button. Fortunately, I didn't lose it so I sewed it back soon after. The thread in the waistline also got loose, the one that is supposed to help the waistline ribbon to stay in place. I don't know how to fix this so gotta google it.

After repair

And that concludes this review! I really like this dress, and hope I can wear it until it dies. I definitely have to drain all the money I paid for it since I don't think it would be easy to sell later (and I don't really plan to sell it anytime soon)

This is my first post in February, I hope I can post more this month, my plan is to catch up reviewing all the pieces I have. I want to use this blog as my digital record in Lolita fashion :D
