Altering Tulu Tulu Lolita Hoop Skirt

This wasn't going to be my next post buuuut, today I finally got the chance to work on something crafty after soooo long, and I'm so excited! So I decided to write about this, instead of the original post I had in mind.

As I said in my previous post, I wanted to alter this hoop skirt because it was a tad longer than what I wanted it. Basically, the hoop skirt measured around ~49cm and I wanted it to be around 45, so I can wear it in my natural waistline, with shorter skirts and more casual dresses. As you can see, I didn't do anything fancy, but definitely something way better than my first rushy attempt 😂

The first step was to remove the lace from the hem. I used my favorite tool, the legendary seam ripper that I always have around because I oftentimes have to undo my stitches.

I love this tool so much.

I'm very good friends with this little guy, so I was very happy to get some help from him. It took a while since I had to be careful not to damage the lace nor the soft chiffon.

Next up!

I folded the hem twice, each fold was around 3/8s of an inch... I think(?) And then I pressed each fold with a semi-hot iron while adding pins to secure the new hem.

Now I had to wear the petticoat to make sure it had the right length before sewing it.

First try-on after pinning the new hem

45cm!!!

Once the entire hem was pinned and confirmed, I just had to sew it! I used a 3.5mm stitch.

It took a little time because the hoops were all over the place and my table is quite small 😅

After sewing the new hem, I went again with the iron and pressed it a little bit more. Now I had to sew the lace back to the hem... But then I thought... Why would I sew this lace to this petticoat? Nobody will see it, and this is valuable material I can use later in other crafts. So I decided to keep it. I don't have anything in mind right now, but they are almost 4 meters 😂

It is gorgeous, and I can also dye it!

And then I was done and the final result is very nice!!!

I had to wear Melty Ribbon Chocolate skirt to make sure it worked 100%, since this skirt is the main reason why I decided to buy this petticoat 😂 The final look is awesoooome!!! It sits comfortably in my waist and I can swirl around without fear of a white hem peeking through.

Weirdo poses in the last pic but no white petticoat showing!!! WOHOOOO!!!
also, ignore the weird bell-shape. I was too lazy to adjust the hoops

And that's basically all! As I said, there's nothing fancy about this, but it has been so long since the last time I even touched my sewing machine, anything crafty makes me so happy 😁 even if it is something simple! Kudos to my old sewing machine, which I thought was almost dead, but she is fine! She can still get shit done 😂. Kinda off-topic not-so-off-topic, my sewing machine is full of stickers from lovely artists!

I'm running out of space!

It is funny because I always try to explain my interest in Lolita fashion as a mix of things that I love, Beautiful Art and Beautiful Sewing 😆

That's all for today! Thank you for reading~!
